These companies do indeed give away free iPads. So, I don't understand why they are creating this 'story' about becoming a tester for Apple in order to get the iPad, when they're giving them away anyway. At first it just didn't make sense to me.
Then it hit me...
We, all of us, are becoming immune to the best possible offer anyone could make us... FREE. We see Free all over the place. We are blasted with advertising wherever we go, even in the bathroom. We can't escape it! A great deal of that advertising offers something for Free as a means of catching our attention. We all know that any marketing message is dead in the water unless you can get someone's attention. The sad truth is that we are bombarded with so much advertising everywhere, everyday, that we are becoming immune to it. We tune it out, we simply ignore it.
After realizing that, I now understood why these companies were claiming to be giving away Apple iPads to those of use willing to test one out. Ha, can you believe it. The good old, "Hey, lemme give this to your for Free" just isn't working anymore. We have to make up some story just to give something away for nothing. Crazy isn't it. Makes me wonder how people will be giving away Free stuff 20 years from now.

Western Digital TV Live Review

In this article I'll be discussing the Western Digital TV Live, which is a media player that connects to your HD TV and allows you to play HD content in either 720p or 1080p resolutions.
The first thing you'll notice about the WD TV Live is its size, it's tiny. You wouldn't think such a small device could pack such a big punch, but it does. The player comes with a remote control, and its necessary batteries, and also its power adapter. Unfortunately a HD cable isn't provided, so you'll have to source this elsewhere.
Once you've connected the device, and turned it on, you'll notice a baby blue light on the front of the player to signify that it's on. When you change your TV's channel to the player's channel, you'll then notice the WD TV Live's boot up screen. This is displayed for roughly a few seconds, and it then changes to the main menu, where you can choose from a host of options which include, video, music, photos and settings. The setting's option allows you to customise your player experience, allowing you to change how files and folder are displayed, how and if your WD TV will connect to a network, the language selection etc. Selecting the music option takes you to the music menu, which allows you to open up files and folders which host any music files. The photo's option takes you to the photo's screen, and the video screen likewise.
You can connect your media to the WD TV Live player in a variety of ways, ranging from a USB stick which physically plugs into either or both of the media players USB ports, an external hard drive which connects to the media player via a USB cable, or a network connection. A network connection allows you to connect your WD TV live media player to your network, and stream any music and videos in real time. This is how mine is currently setup, and it works faultlessly, no skipping, pausing, just a smooth playback. I've also tested playing videos and music via a USB stick or an external hard drive, and this also worked perfectly. There is also the option of connecting the device to your network via a wireless USB stick, but only some USB sticks are compatible, so you'll need to have a look at the product's home page on the manufacturer's website to ensure it'll work correctly.
HD movies are displayed beautifully on the WD TV live media player, and you have a range of options during playback. You can choose whether to display the films built in subtitles, and if so, what language. You can pause the film at any moment, fast forward or rewind in single mode, x2, x4, x8 or x16, and you also have the option of skipping forwards or backwards in 10 minute intervals.
The WD TV media player is a fantastic device which has worked faultlessly for me in my 6 months of ownership. It's a perfect device for those who wish to add to their home theatre, and due to its size and slick appearance, it's sure to look the part as well.

Secure Your Wireless Connection

Do you know that no matter how hard you try, you cannot make a wireless connection as secure as a wired one? Well, that is a tough introduction but wait! You are not hopeless. There are three steps for having a very secure wireless Internet connection. Let's begin.
STEP 1.
Wireless modems have a control panel accessed via a web browser and the default URL is usually something like: http:// 192.168.0.1, http:// 192.168.1.1, etc. If somebody accesses the control panel, he/she can do many things that you do not want them to!
So what can you do? The best thing to do is to change the default password of the control panel which is by default blank or something easy to guess such as admin. Try to use a combination of numbers and letters. One example is hg87Udgrt.
STEP 2.
You secured the control panel but others can still access Internet via your modem. Now, it is time to prevent people from using your modem without knowing the password you are about to define. This setting is usually under the Wireless Security section.
Once you find the wireless security page in the control panel, you will be asked to select a mode such as WEP, WPA2 Personal, WPA2 Mixed, and so on. If you see WPA2, select it. If not, select WPA.
Then you should enter a passphrase that is hard to guess again. Do not give the same password you have chosen at step 1. Think about it: if you have a vault with two locks, you will certainly have two different keys, not one!
Set your passphrase and you are done. Congratulations! You have just one step left.
STEP 3.
No matter how hard you try, there is no 100% security. The more you secure your system, the better it will withstand attacks.
Each computer on an Ethernet network has a fixed address called physical (MAC) address. Since it is impossible to change this address for the majority of network cards, you can instruct the wireless modem to restrict address to the network cards of computers you will use to access the Internet for an added layer of security.
So, how do you know the MAC address of the wireless card of the computer you use? It is very simple! Open a command editor by typing cmd command in Start -> Run window. Then, type ipconfig /all. From the output, search for your wireless card name and you will see the MAC address after a small number of lines.
Now, you have your MAC address at hand. It is time to enter this address into the control panel of your wireless modem. This setting is usually available under a section called Wireless Access. You should enter the physical (MAC) address such as 00:13:E8:18:19:FF and then enable the MAC address filtering.
You completed all the steps! You did your best to secure your modem. Now it is time to connect. Your computer will ask you the network key before connecting to the modem which is the passphrase you chose in step 2.
